Once upon a time, John Carpenter had a dream. Okay, so it was a dream about a horrible alien monstrosity, but hey, not all dreams are nice dreams. But this dream had a happy ending, as "The Thing" ended up becoming one of the horror director's most popular films.
And now, 30 years later, it's back -- and if the new trailer for this version of "The Thing" is any indication, that dream has turned into a serious nightmare.
Of course, there's bound to be a little confusion; despite the fact that this version of "The Thing" has the same title as the 1982 version of 'The Thing," it's not a reboot or a remake but rather a prequel; it aims to tell the story of the doomed Norwegian expedition that first found the... thing... in the original movie.
Naturally, that does tend to take a little bit of the drama out of the procedure for anyone who has seen the original "Thing" (hint: they all die), but if this trailer is any indication, they plan to make up for that by overloading the viewer with grade-A horror.
So take a look at "The Thing" (and star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, of "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" fame) courtesy of MSN. Just watch it with the lights on, okay?
