UPDATE: Add "TRON: Legacy" lovely Olivia Wilde to the list of frontrunners. In fact, she's already tested for it.

Latino Review cites a source on one of her other projects -- "Kin" -- who claims the shooting schedule is already being reworked to accommodate Wilde if she lands the part.

---------------

Lois Lane is just as important as Superman. There, we said it.

The ace-journalist of The Daily Planet is as often a foil for Supes as she is his love interest, especially in the hilariously antagonistic "His Girl Friday"-style rapport she has with his alter ego, Clark Kent.

Now that dashing Brit Henry Cavill has been cast as the titular "Man of Steel" in the Zack Snyder/Christopher Nolan reboot, it's high time we got down to who's worthy of walking in Margot Kidder's shoes, and Moviehole has compiled a list of the ladies on Warner Bros. radar.

Anne Hathaway was at the top of the heap before Nolan decided she was purr-fect to don Catwoman's tight leather duds for "The Dark Knight Rises." No arguments here.

"Twilight" enchantress Kristen Stewart is on the Lois list, though she's more likely to jump into the saddle with Viggo Mortensen in "Snow White and the Huntsman." Meanwhile, the tantalizing Malin Akerman might reunite with her "Watchmen" director Snyder if the age difference between her and Cavill isn't a fly in the ointment.

Rachel McAdams, Jessica Biel and Dianna Agron ("I Am Number Four") are also possibilities, with "Scott Pilgrim" beauty Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kristen Bell circling the periphery.

In 2006's "Superman Returns," the intrepid reporter was played by then-22-year-old Kate Bosworth, and though she put in a valiant effort it was a bit of a stretch to think of her as a Pulitzer Prize-winner with a 5-year-old kid when she looked like she only recently got her driver's license.

Of course, we hadn't heard Cavill's name even hinted for "The Man of Steel" until he was CAST, so there could be some totally left-field choice for Lois Lane just waiting to get the drop on us. Lindsay Lohan, anyone?
